Today is a music day.
Hey guys. I am going to do a music day today. The three of us have all been sick and had issues that we’ve had to deal with.
On top of that, my other hat as pastor’s wife has taken a little more time than usual. Pastor Steve is really good at listening to God, even if God changes the sermon topic or even just the focus of that topic. I am in charge of music and the bulletin, so that has me switching up things, too.
Then there is this song. One of the sermon changes meant Pastor Steve was preaching on repentance. I always do a Google search to see what are all the different songs out there that I can choose to include in the service.
Lord, Give Me Light popped up. Well, the lyrics did. When I goggled it to see if there was a video of it, I fell in love with what I found.
The music was the same music for the hymn Higher Ground.I found a really neat accompaniment track for it.
Easy-peasy from there, right?
Ummmm.
I am a visual person, so I needed the music in front of me. My wonderful sister had told me about a program that allowed me to do that.
The first issue I ran into was Higher Ground in the hymnal was three beats to the measure, and the accompaniment was four. So, it took me a while to figure out what was happening for each of the four beats.
Next, I had to deal with putting the words in, which I hadn’t tried in my other times playing around with it. I finally got it done.
But then I had to modify the accompaniment track. There were too many choruses on it but not enough verses.
I recorded this at 4:00 Sunday morning — the day I sang it at church. (Of course, my nocturnal kid wasn’t nocturnal that night.)
Really listen to these words. It isn’t a check list, but it brings up a lot of areas in our lives where we might need repentance.
God wants us to be totally focused on Him. We can’t keep any area of ourselves back from turning it over to Him. This song should make us think about what we need to pray about.
Lord, Grant Me Light
