Blessings

Today is a music day.

Sorry. I am not able to get my post broadcast tonight. I’ve got two written. I was looking forward to closing out Noah’s story with you.

My head isn’t cooperating tonight. It’s not raining. It isn’t even windy. All I can think that is happening is it is cooling off.

Blessings by Laura Story is one of my favorite songs. I was so pleased my wonderful sister was able to do the accompaniment for me. (I’ve kind of loaded her down lately with requests.) I sang this Sunday at our church.

We pray for so many things that are wrapped up in our physical life. Do we spend as much time and passion asking for spiritual things?

Pastor Steve has been reading Finney’s True Christianity. It sounded like Finney didn’t believe our usual Wednesday night prayer meetings are effective. He wrote,

“Some people will spin out a long prayer in telling God who and what he is, or they pray out the whole system of divinity. Some preach, other exhort the people — until everyone wishes they would stop, and God certainly wishes this.”

We use these prayers to ask God to take away all the trials and sufferings from our lives and those we love. But while we rack up the word count, we don’t realize His answering our prayers would be the worst thing for us.

We need to know the rain, the storms, the hardest nights are His mercies in disguise.
