Spiritual death is the separation from God that occurred as a consequence of Adam and Eve’s original sin.
- We are born sinners at birth because we are born spiritually dead. For salvation, God isn’t looking at whether we didn’t do the do’s and did the don’ts. He is looking at whether is Jesus our Savior and have we submitted our lives to Him (The Unbelieving State of the Gentile Church).
- Even if we do not feel that we have sinned (but we have), those who have not been given salvation are separated from God. All mankind, at birth, are spiritually dead because Adam and Eve’s original sin condemned mankind to spiritual death. Because mankind chose to not follow God’s laws and commandments, mankind is the subject of divine wrath (How Are We Debtors to God?).
- God’s plan of salvation isn’t about doing the do’s and not doing the don’ts. It is about whether we are spiritually alive or spiritually dead (The Perfection of the Church).
- But we all are spiritually dead – until we admit our sins, believe on Jesus as Savior and Redeemer, and confess God as our Sovereign Lord. Once we ABCD, God regenerates us and makes us spiritually alive (Prayers of Forgiveness from the Cross).
- Our human nature dictates that we are spiritually dead – until we make the conscious decision to admit our sins, believe in Jesus as Savior and Redeemer, and confess God as Sovereign Lord. Only Jesus’ sacrifice could pay the penalty for our sins (The Perfection of the Church).
- It isn’t about what the act of what we do or don’t do, anyway. It is about submitting to God so that He can change us from being spiritually dead to spiritually alive (How Can We Find Comfort in Troubling Times?).
- God could have kept the consequences to sin in place. We could still be spiritually dead. We could still be separated from Him (Does God Really Forgive and Forget Sin?).
- Jesus, on the other hand, wanted us to be in position to “… receive the promise of the eternal inheritance …” (Heb. 9: 15 CSB). Where the law couldn’t save us, Jesus could, changing us from spiritually dead to spiritually alive. That provides us the assurance that, when this life is over, we will spend eternity with Him (Who Is Jesus?).
- God blesses those who want our relationship with Him restored. Being spiritually poor has to do with being aware of the fact that we are spiritually dead without God. We can’t make ourselves become spiritually alive. Only God can (Does God Help Those Who Help Themselves?).
- God is the refuge for those who realize they are spiritually dead without him. He shelters them through the trials of life – even the strongest trials that cause extreme suffering (Does God Help Those Who Help Themselves?).
- God’s priority for our lives does not focus on this physical life. His priority is not who our soul mate is; what job, car, or home we have; or even the condition of our health and finances. His priority is whether we are spiritually alive or spiritually dead (Did Election Fail?).
- Since worldview people are spiritually dead, their spirits will be residents of hell, not heaven (How Else Are We Made in His Image?).
- All of mankind is going to live for eternity. However, worldview people who are spiritually dead will live in hell; disciples who are spiritually alive will live in heaven (How Else Are We Made in His Image?).
- We are changed from spiritually dead to spiritually alive upon conversion (Did Election Fail?).
- Believe and confess. That is what we need to gain salvation. That is what we need to go from being spiritually dead to spiritually alive (Salvation in a Nutshell).
- It is important that we gain salvation. If we don’t, we will continue to be spiritually dead. Then we will suffer the consequences of sin (Salvation in a Nutshell).
- God brings us the plan salvation through election, and then He calls us to salvation. He wants us to go from being spiritually dead to spiritually alive (Evidence of Election).
- Where the law couldn’t save us, Jesus could, changing us from spiritually dead to spiritually alive. Becoming spiritually alive is a part of regeneration. Regeneration is the change in us that God brings about when we go from being spiritually dead to spiritually alive (How Are We Debtors to God?).
