You have been raised to life with Christ. Set your hearts, then, on things that are in heaven, where Christ sits on His throne at the right side of God.
Colossians 3: 1 (TEV)
Scripture: Matthew 6: 25-34
We have been raised to life with Christ. We don’t have to worry about this life because we have a new life. That is so much easier said than done when you are a chronic worrier. Life seems filled with too many heartaches and heartbreaks to be worry free. Once we seem to get one problem taken care of, another one pops up clamoring for attention. But doesn’t God say in His Word that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like the lilies of the field (Matt. 6: 28-29)?
Let’s consider the lily. Many people would say it serves no purpose. It hasn’t given us any good ideas to help slow down the escalating crime. It won’t feed the people who go to bed hungry each night. It sure doesn’t have money as its bloom. But what is its main purpose? Its purpose on this earth is to sit there and look pretty. Now, how does it grow? The Bible says, “… they toil not, neither do they spin” (Matt. 6: 28 KJV). It has no worries about where its next meal is coming from or if it will pass its history test. Its “job” is to show the beauty of God. Man cannot make a lily — a real, living lily. However, in it we see the wonderful hand of God creating beauty.
Many times, we are too caught up in our day-to-day problems and problems that will affect our future. We don’t stop long enough to contemplate all of the beauty in this world that God has given us. It is then, caught in the rat race, that we forget about all God has done for us and all He wants to do for us.
God doesn’t want us to worry about this world and all its troubles. He wants us to put our faith in Him. He’ll watch over us and provide for our needs.
We should be like the lily. “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matt. 6: 19-21 NKJV).
So, with all the worries of this life out of the way, “… seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you” (Matt. 6: 33 KJV). So, don’t worry about this world. Put your faith in God and do His work. Show others God’s beauty in you. Consider yourself a lily.
Dear Lord. We thank You for the lilies and the beauty of them. Lord, we thank You for considering us lilies and seeing beauty in us, even when we feel there is none. We thank You for always ministering to our needs. Slow us down when we get caught on the treadmill of life, so we can realize the beauty of the world You have given us. Father, forgive us when we put this earthly home over our heavenly home. Give us strength to overcome our worries, and may we always see Your hand in our lives guiding us through. Amen.
