• It is hard to understand God’s ways sometimes. We are flat out told that. “‘For my thoughts are not your thoughts, and your ways are not my ways.’ This is the Lord’s declaration. ‘For as heaven is higher than earth, so my ways are higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts’” (Isa. 55: 8-9 CSB) (Attributes of God: Omniscient and All-Knowing).
  • No one — me included — is going to get everything right all the time because we will never understand all of God’s ways (Isa. 55: 8-9) (Why Should We Love Our Enemies?).
  • We keep saying it is hard to understand God. The His-ways-are-higher-than-ours verses (Isa. 55: 8-9) seem to back that up. Even the definition of faith talks about believing without fully understanding. But it is crystal clear that God is in charge. Nothing slips by His observation. There is nothing that is out of the scope of His power (Surrendering Our Will to God).
  • We may think we understand how God did many things and why, but we really don’t. This is especially true of spiritual things (What Are the Causes and Effects of Evil? (Part 1)).
  • We aren’t going to figure it out. He is Sovereign God. He is all-knowing and all-powerful. We aren’t — even with all of our scientific knowledge (Isaiah’s Message on God’s Purpose).
  • If we don’t understand everything, we think it is perfectly fine for us to not believe in God. It doesn’t work that way. We are never going to totally understand God because His ways are higher than our ways (Isa. 55: 8-9). We still need to believe in God (Discerning the Voice of God through His Word).
  • Science really doesn’t prove or disprove anything related to God. It is just our understanding of how we think God did — or didn’t do — something. God told us two things about that. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding; in all your ways know him, and he will make your paths straight” (Prov. 3: 5-6 CSB). “‘For my thoughts are not your thoughts, and your ways are not my ways.’ This is the Lord’s declaration. ‘For as heaven is higher than earth, so my ways are higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts’” (Isa. 55: 8-9 CSB). We are not going to totally figure out God’s ways. We have to accept that (How Do We Gain Salvation through Hope?).
  • The Ephesians were trying to understand the gospel from the foundation of worldview philosophy. The problem with that is the philosophy was a heathen philosophy. The problem as I see it is that, in learning, we evaluate the new information based on what we already know. We don’t — can’t — know all the ins and outs of things because God’s ways are higher than our ways (Isa. 55: 8-9). If we think we have to understand it all, we are going to be sorely disappointed. Faith has the element of giving up total understanding and relying on God anyway (What Is Purity to a Disciple of Christ?).
